Outdoor Creations
is owned and operated by Chris Woytik, whose passion for landscaping began in 2003 mowing lawns in his childhood neighborhood. What started as a simple love for working outdoors has grown into a full-service, custom design-and-build landscape company known for craftsmanship, attention to detail, and personalized service, where each client works directly with Chris throughout every project.
Rooted in ecological design, Chris creates outdoor spaces that provide habitat and balance, not just beauty. By using natural materials, native plants, and sustainable practices, he ensures every landscape supports the environment it inhabits.
Chris’ passion shifted toward ecological landscaping after meeting his now-wife, Megan, a professional conservationist and UConn Certified Master Gardener.

Megan introduced Chris to the world of ecological landscaping through Douglas Tallamy’s book, Bringing Nature Home. Since then, Chris has dedicated his practice to stewarding the land and promoting ecological health on every job site.
Chris holds an Associate’s Degree in Landscape Design and Management from Springfield Technical Community College. He completed the Northeast Organic Farming Association’s Organic Land Care Program in 2014, is an active member of the Native Plant Trust and the Ecological Landscape Alliance, and is a certified Professional Drainage Contractor through NDS, Inc.

FAQ
We stress the importance of a strong client relationship in achieving project success. We seek to ensure compatibility and technical expertise. Many clients are referred through word of mouth or familiarity with our work. Our intake process involves a detailed form with photos, followed by email or phone contact, and then a site visit to discuss project parameters and determine a rough cost estimate. Our customized approach incorporates design, consulting, and planning into the project scope, influencing the overall fee. Upon engagement, a project-specific deposit initiates the design phase, including site data collection and a detailed quote. A follow-up meeting will be scheduled to review design and pricing.
The budget discussion can be difficult and may seem invasive to some. Rest assured, our goal is to utilize your budget to determine the project’s customization potential and establish a starting point for exploring the extent of landscaping we can deliver. We prioritize prudent budget management, valuing the resources you allocate and striving to meet your expectations within our agreed-upon budget.
As a company that utilizes ecological methods, we minimize the use of landscape fabric due to its unnatural composition. When mulch is applied on top, it decomposes into an organic, soil-like material, which allows weed growth and renders the fabric ineffective and wasteful in the long run. Over time, perennials are hindered from spreading naturally, and roots become entangled in the fabric. Instead, we adopt a ‘green mulch’ approach by planting densely, leveraging the earth’s natural design for vegetation. This strategy suppresses weeds and undesirable plants, promoting desirable flora in our landscape beds.
We prioritize the use of regionally native plant species, recognizing their unique suitability to our local climate, soil conditions, and wildlife. Native plants exhibit optimal establishment, reduced watering needs, and provide vital food sources and habitats for indigenous birds, insects, and animals. They play a crucial role in maintaining ecological equilibrium. Common milkweed (Asclepias syriaca), for instance, is a critical keystone species supporting the endangered monarch butterfly. Native plants often have specialized relationships with specific bird or insect species, providing essential sustenance. The loss of native plants will continue to compromise local ecosystems.
Our business practices and project builds prioritize meticulous attention to detail, a distinguishing factor that sets us apart from competitors. With the owner onsite at all times, Outdoor Creations provides tailored services for each project. We focus on thoroughness and efficiency rather than speed. This emphasis on detail naturally requires a slightly longer build process. We take measures to preserve existing lawns, utilizing ground protection mats, smaller equipment, and careful material handling, while ensuring proper soil compaction, maintaining a well-organized job site, and more.
